Ingredients:
Rice - 3/4cup
Moong dal - 1/4cup
Jaggery - 1 1/2cup
Cardamom Powder - few
Cashewnuts - 5
Dry Grapes - 5
Pachai Karpooram - a pinch
Ghee - 50gms
Method to Prepare Sakkarai Pongal (sweet pongal)
1.Dilute jaggery in water and leave for 10 minutes. Filter it and prepare jaggery syrup.
2.Heat a pan and add moong dal. Fry till it gets golden colour.
3. Wash the rice and add moong dal to it. Add 4 cups of water and pressure cook it for about 5 whistles.
4. Add jaggery syrup in a pan and heat it till it loses its water to 3/4th level.
5. At this point add the cooked rice/dal and mix thoroughly.
6. Keep the flame in simmer mode and let it cook for about 10-15minutes.
7. Add ghee generously and mix well.
8. Heat ghee in another pan and fry cashewnuts & dry grapes
9. Finally add the fried dry fruits, cardamom powder and powdered pachai karpooram to the sweet pongal and mix well.
Sweet pongal is ready now.
